Lonz, That is interesting. Despite Brinks servicing Coinstar, they also service many other businesses. So the coinstar think would explain brinks having a lower production, but not completely removed from silver. I personally think that some employees probably have the ability to remove the silver dimes. Imagine if you were the guy boxing, or overseeing an automated process of boxing these dimes. I'm sure the typical silver dime is real ease to spot in the plastic wrap. The employee could do really well if they had a pocket full of clad dimes. Every time you spot a silver, you slide it out of the plastic roll, replace it and slide them back in. Now, if some employees are doing this, it would only affect those of us in the region where that employee is pulling silver. Make sense?
This is one of the reason I started a new topic encouraging people to tell where they are from and what courier they use.

They are basically these rolls just the dime variety.  Last box was all 2012p new ones so when we got this box I was quite excited and so far its been producing I would say 2 silver dimes every 5-7 rolls I open. I am also only really edge searching as I don't have the time to go date by date except when I do drawer skims. |

Constrictor - that's not Brinks. They are all plastic wrap except for halves which are white/brown.
Owassokie - can you post a link on here to your other topic?
Double J - I believe Coinstars use a comparator that tests the conductivity of the metal (someone else may chime in to the contrary, but I'm 80% sure)
.... going back to my credit union for a couple boxes tomorrow. Got there at 4:45 and the vault was closed, but picked up $50 at the grocery store... mixed BWR/CWR's haven't gone through them yet.

I know this question has probably been asked before, but do you have better luck with CWR's or BWR's? Going through $230 of CWR's and I'm $80 with nothin yet... some BU 2010, 2011, but no 2009's either.

Lonz, very interesting about coin star, I never would of thought of that. Re cwr or bwr, I'd go with CWR. I have found them in both but, when I started I once found 13 silver dimes in one cwr. That got me hooked but have never been as luck...not even from a full box.

Picked up $100 in CWR from the CU last night. I searched both nickels and dime last night. Note to self; "search the dimes first. Before your eyes get tired." Complete skunk. I will try another branch of the CU today.
Owassokie, I'll see if I can pick up a box from B of A or my company bank tomorrow. One of them uses the clear plastic. I have to check my notes when I get home from work to see which one it is.
Let my preface this by saying that I don't search dimes that often. With regard to the question of BWR or CRW, I seem to have better luck with CRW. Although you have to put up with the occasional short roll. For nickels it's about 50/50.

Just found in 1 roll a 1941, 1944 and a 1952x2 all along side one another. I usually don't search dimes.. First silver dimes!

picked up $200 more CWR's... first two rolls I grabbed yielded 2009 P & D! Can't wait to do the rest!

Machine-wrapped String/son boxes are the best. In five years they've given me over 100 silver Canadians, over 100 mercs, six Barbers and clad and silver proofs. Not to mention hundreds of silver Rosies. Count-wise, mwr boxes are slightly better. My best cwr gave 27 silvers. I've yet to find a solid silver roll after searching over $100,000 in dimes.

fistfulladirt - every time I go to grab dimes from the banks in town they ALWAYS have an endless supply of CWR's. Do you approach the situation as you would for half dollars? I would assume just ask if they could order a box from their armored car service - this means I have to get an account at PNC - only ones I've seen that use the string & sons, but its the brown/green kraft paper - Do you get the white wraps? If so, which armored car service/bank do you get from? I know it's different for each region.

I think I need to start on dimes again. The first roll I ever got had a silver. It was Brinks, IIRC. I was at the Coinstar tonight when someone dumped over $400 in coins! They let me have a silver dime and a '43 steel cent, but I lost the dime.  Edited by CPC24

Lonz, couriers here vary between Loomis and Garda, and sometimes Brinks servicing the same bank at times. I don't do the volume in dimes that I used to, but I have one or two banks that call me when the cwr's reach about $1k. When I started five years ago, I did have banks order boxes for me, and I had no account. Have plenty of accounts now.
