Dime Roll Searching

nice job on those mercs MOnks...have yet to find one in circulation....i dont do a lot of dimes and the most recent find for me was a 64d I got in some change the other day ha...go figure

I bought 3 boxes of dimes for the weekend. Found 3 Rosie's in the first. Nothing in the third box. On my second box, I saw silver in my last roll, but the rim looked like a Canadian. I pull it out and confirm it's Canadian. But imagine my surprise when I look at the date and see 1964! I don't get too many Canadian dimes in Oklahoma. I never expected to find a silver Canadian. Pretty cool.

Anyone have any good advice for someone new to CRH? I was thinking of trying a few rolls.

For dimes the quick the dirty is to look for the silver. Run your eye along the edge of a roll (I open the roll into my hand so it stays a roll) and if there is a 'silver' it will stick out. The rest all look like sandwitches between a medium brown (the copper) and a light 'silverish' (the nickle). But silver kinda stands out because it has no sandwitch, its all silver and slightly brighter too depending on its condition.

Thats the only one I 'know'. I look for errors minimally just by eye sight and have started looking for mint mark S's which is a proof. I'm still learning but I'm learning what to look for by trying to 'memorize' a few ones that are highly unlikely to be errors and then comparing them mentally to the others looking for things that might be different. For example I found a P mintmark that had no middle post in the P so it had no indention. Not worth anything as it was common to happen but it was 'technically' an error I guess. I noticed because I was checking mint marks and the mint mark 'looked funny'. So you can check other parts of the coin and compare them and look for anything that 'looks funny' and then check some of the various cherry picking books or on this forum or what ever to confirm.

Ive read the "How to Strick It Rich with Pocket Change" and its a good reference to start but I found it over whelming as there were hundreds of errors and most of them were one in a million chances. As I understand from what I have read and seen on here. Pretty much any type of error is possible and even undiscovered just gotta watch for the wierd stuff and get other people's opinions.

Good luck! You can also check out the other denominations of this hobby as well. Pretty much same rules apply in general though you wont get silver pennies for exaple or find Lincoln's double ear on Kennedy. .
