I found 4 silvers and a 2001 panama coin in my last box. The "46 is REALLY worn out. There are no reeds visible anymore.

Just for kicks I bought a box of dimes on Wednesdsay. I saw the topic Dime roll searching several times and thought I would give it a try. I found a 54D, 2 - 60D, and a 63D. Down side I got a Canadian and the coin counter wouldn't take it back. Also the machine total was off by 80 cents (after I replaced the 4 silver with new ones). Found $8.80 in silver and lost 90 cents in trade. Still I made out in the end. I might just try a box a week for a while. I know it was beginners luck.
Has anyone else found the machines miscount dimes?

tpg, It does happen and it's fairly regular. I no longer pay attention to exactly how much coin I'm turning in because it would drive me crazy. This is a hobby and their will be some give and take. Remember that most hobbies cost A LOT of money. If you're looking at this as a side business, I'd suggest finding a different job. By the time it's all said and done, most weeks you'd be better off working at McDonald's by the time you add up all the fees, gas, and hours spent buying, searching, and dumping coin.

Thanks OO. I just wanted to make sure I still knew how to count. A few dimes here and there is really nothing. I tried a second box of dimes today. Found a 1943. Might make this a once a week thing.

IV been searching dimes lately, and doing pretty good just hitting random banks early in the week before my halve boxes come in. Went out "free hunting" today, I brought home one box of dimes $250, $100 in mwr, and 215$ in cwr dimes All 4 silvers came from the 250$ box. Iv been finding 3-5 dimes in the boxes latey, just havnt been posting in the thread. I also got one "bonus box" of halves, 220 in cwr rolls of halves, and 30 in cwr of quarters, forgot to ask for quarters after the first bank....lol... I purposely left the halves in the picture for my fellow half hunters to see, I got some bonus silvers in those this week as well.

Yes TPG, around here the machines will count dimes as pennies. I figured out by dumping slowly into the hopper I lose less to pennies, last two times dumping 750-1000 in dimes I only got less then 2$ counted as pennies.

I see why you all get hooked on this. That feeling when you unwrap the roll and see the silver sitting mid-roll. If I only loose a few each time it's worth the entertainment. Thanks again for replying.

I may have gone a tad overboard today... I went through 7 boxes of dimes and $1290 in halves from 10 different banks. I ended up with 1 lonely 1965 half and 14 silver roosevelts.

Tpg, can you imagine getting 30-50 Canadian dimes rejected by the counting machine every time you dump? That's what I get every time I run $500 worth of US thru. Also, my bank reimburses my machine shorts. They know I'm usually dumping dimes, and the machine while good, will count dimes as cents from time to time. Even if it doesn't, shorts are sometimes expected because the amounts of machine rolled boxes or cwr are sometimes off. Like someone else mentioned, its all part of the hobby.
