Quote: Found this gem today, wonder if it is worth more than its silver content? Just the melt value in its condition. Still nice to get for sure!

I was getting tired of not finding silver in half dollar boxes so I picked up 2 boxes of domes instead. First box had none but box 2 had a 1964, 1960 and a 1942 Merc! All in pretty good shape.

Baysinger626,
I love to do the halves as well, but the bank which ordered them for me no longer orders them. So, I have turned primarily to CWR dimes seeing they tend to be the easiest to come buy.
My goal is a tube (50) silvers and so far have found 18. Had some decent finds over the last week or two. May go out Monday and see what I can find.

Halves are lousy here, and have been for the last five years. One good box that held 27 silvers, about 4 years ago. Average one 40% per $1,000. Dollar per dollar searched, dimes vs halves, gimme dimes all day long. Boxed halves seriously bore me to death, just not worth it IMO.

Well, 4 boxes and $500 in cwr just gave up 1 merc and 2 rosies...I'm still averaging one silver dime per $130 searched, been the same over the last five years.

once again dimes save the day. 100 in CWR- 1 rosie, 500 in bank rolled pulled 3 of the same.

I was averaging around two silver halves for each $1000 searched for a while. Towards the end, the numbers weren't all that great as far as silver but the proofs I found made it addictive. Given the chance, I will still search halves. Yet, based on my experience, you are more likely to find silver doing dimes. This makes sense for two reasons. First, think of the shear number of dimes produced versus half dollars produced. I would guess there to be 10x more dimes than halves though I would need to refer to some of my reference books for exact numbers. Second, I think half dollars have probably been gone through more than any other denomination by silver hunters. They hold the most silver. They are the large and easy to search, and they were probably the least circulated coin short of Eisenhower dollars. Now, I pretty much ask for dimes at my banks and also ask if they have any half dollars and a secondary question. I do not tend to search quarters and I have not done a lot of nickles either though I think they could be fun.

quarters are the worse to search, a few nickels in the rolls and no silver and you're almost always in the hole.

I got a 62 and 64 out of 200 in cwr today. Got shafted on 200$ in cwr quarters. The first two each had one nickel in the middle of the roll, I thought they looked short. 10 of the rolls were the cointainers, 4 had one nickel in them and 9.25 in quarters, the other 6 had 9.50$.
Oh well could have been worse for sure, thats the problem with cwr rolls.

M0nks,
I am glad to see you have pretty decent luck with quarters. I haven't had much myself.
Today, $50 machine rolled and $20 CWR produced a 1996 Canadian. I am getting pretty good now and telling Canadians while edge roll searching. Sadly, all I have found have been non-silver.
Oh well, hope to do some additional searching tomorrow. More later.
