Dime Roll Searching

Shoot wish I could hit a couple licks on quarters, a friend of mine found an almost full box of silver quarters in a storage locker years ago and I gave him a thousand dollars probably 10 or 12 years ago, I have always wanted to top off the box.

Takes a lot of patience with dimes. Everytime I take them in I end up having to wait because the machine is full. That usually takes 10 mins to get taken care of. Almost everytime some dimes get counted as pennies. Easy to tell when the total doesn't end in zero. Today they opened the machine and it was a mess. Many coins in the wrong catch bucket. Out of order sign went up halfway through my count. I guess I'll have to go back another day. Not a money maker buy interesting to do.

I dump into a coinstar at the CU and I was always wondering if it was counting right so I started bagging all coins of the same denomination together, it has never counted a coin wrong, but I do think it may have been short a few coins now and then, I have started pulling any coins that are damaged in anyway and when I get enough I will fill a roll and turn it in to a teller. Man someone is going to be ticked when they open these rolls with chunks missing and smashed back flat with my hammer.

baysinger: Since I have seen the inside of the machine too many times I can tell you how this one works. Each coin has it's own bag lined bucket inside the machine. I would guess it can handle 4-5 boxes of dimes before it is full. I have gone there 5 times and each time I have had to wait about half way through my transaction for them to come and empty the machine. I only dump one box per visit. I'm not giving up though. One time it took a while longer because the bag was installed incorrectly and dimes went everywhere when he worked on the machine. I did check for silver as they rolled around. No luck.

My friend told me today that when he ordered 2k worth of halves from his bank here in orange country, his friend , the bank manager said they sort their coins out for silver. I guess their machines are calibrated now to sort the silver. The manager said and confirmed this. Manager Told my friend he should of asked him first because of this... So there you have it

The counter I use at the CU is just like that, everything goes into one of two big metal boxes in the bottom. they have a special hand truck to pull it out, I have several time had it switch from one side to the other on my dumps and have shut it down 2 times where both sides were filled up, they have to open it up to give you your uncounted coin and there are coins spilled out everywhere inside and on top of the boxes. the boxes have a 2" trailer hitch ball pointing down toward the floor so they just wheel in, pick it up and haul it out.

I just found a new bank that will sell me bags from their counter so Iopened an account with them. I'm excited to go through my first bag of non-rolled dimes!

Searching dime rolls is easier and faster than searching loose from bags.
I've searched hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of dimes in the last five years.
The LaRue machine my CU uses is fairly accurate, but does count dimes as cents on occasion. No problem. The tellers know I'm dumping stricktly dimes, I just take the receipt to them and they credit my account for the difference.
This machine holds 4 - $500 bags of dimes, and I usually dump no more than $900 at a time, and there have been no bag changes on my last 10 visits.
