At 1,287,550 dimes searched in four years I completed a roll of Mercury dimes. Average of one every 10 boxes. The last box had two so that's 51 total and here are the years:

congrats sich, that is an impressive list of mercs there! This year, I averaged 1 merc per 11.7 boxes.

just did 2 boxes, and pulled a hole filling 58p. Its the lowest mintage on the 3rd page of the 46-64 whitman I have. Prob the last hunt of the year for me. And a nice way to end!

I'm pretty new to silver dime hunting, only 8 boxes searched. I have found 5 Rosies so far and was thinking that is a pretty low average. Are people having better luck searching machine rolled boxes or customer wrapped rolls? Twice now I've taken a box home only to find 50 rolls of shiney 2014 dimes which is very frustrating. Any tips for the newbie?

azdustin, those brand new boxes will skew your average and they are a bummer. Unless you intercept it at the bank, you may just have to deal with it. Ive gotten plenty. Some consider it part of the game and take just dump them, others may ask for a different box at the bank. Some probably train the tellers to only get them new boxes. But this is easier with pennies than with dimes for them.

I averaged just under 1 Rosie per box this year, but just over 1 silver per box. 75 rosies in 82 boxes. 7 mercs and 2 silver canadians make 84 silvers in 82 boxes. Your area may vary slightly either way.

Good luck! volume helps for sure.

Pulled this gorgeous 43. I think it is somewhere around AU+ to low end BU. has some mint luster. I think it's the best quality merc I have ever found in the wild

Along w 4 silver roosies in a 1000$ bag.

Just wondering, what banks are selling "bags" of coins? Are they mixed or all Dimes? I've been getting boxes but have been stuck with a few that were nothing but 2014's!

azdustin - banks with coin counters will sometimes sell bags. sometimes, banks without coin counters will bag up coin, but usually they ship rolls.
