I have a 2006 P full step nickel in very good condition .Every step is cleary visible . How much are these nickels worth . I have seen them sold for up to a few hundred dollars . Also , what do the initials JNF and PW mean ? It also has FS on it , but I know what that means .

JNF is the designers initials, Jamie N. Franki. I believe its a DW not PW Donna Weaver is the one who sculptured this design. In Red Book, the value of it in MS 65 is .75

Recent Jefferson nickels should have full steps unless heavily worn but that has not always been the case. As you mentioned, some FS nickels can be worth hundreds of dollars due to rarity. This is mainly a function of design hub changes(or lack of changes) through the years. The steps on mid-late 1960s nickels in particular are bad because that hub was designed in 1940 and it was losing fine detail by that time. The composition of nickels(75% copper/25% nickel) is a rather hard alloy so it is also difficult to get a full strike. Recent hub changes have strengthened the step details and given them a sharp appearance. JNF is the initials of the designer, Jamie N. Franki and DW(not PW) is the initials of the sculptor, Donna Weaver- they were the creators of the forward looking Jefferson introduced in 2006. FS is the initials of the original designer of the Jefferson nickel, Felix Schlag, and the reverse is still credited to him.

I'd say no, recent FS versions aren't that hard to find. Yet. In a few years? Maybe.

You can easily find BU full step nickels of most dates and mm's back to the mid 90's in circulation, so odds are it will be a few decades before it appreciates in value. If you dont have a better example keep it, but otherwise id spend it.

Quote: Would it be worth getting certified With no intent to diminish your enthusiasm .... NO. This is a fun find in circulation ..... but quite honestly a common coin today. Sending it to a TPG will cost you $25 plus shipping both ways ..... and this is a $2 coin tops. Best bet for you is to set it aside in your 'special' space and keep on searching ....... I would hate to see you spend your money on slabbing this coin. My humble and honest opinion David
