coinsrfun Pillar of the Community Canada 693 Posts	Posted 03/03/2010 11:05 pm OK, this one is a lot of fun. Grade MS 64+ Notes contaminated strike. Some how copper shavings got in the striking chamber. I thought (when I first acquired it) that someone had attempted to burnish copper leaf onto a struck coin. I tested the area at the top of the beavers back. Using a sharp prod..(awl), I damaged the copper, it took some pressure but it lifted as expected, but much deeper than expected. The Cupro nickel underneath showed no clear indication of the fur design....ok, so the copper was struck not rubbed on.......TOO COOL! Also, did you notice it was a 10 cent planchett. hehehe Report this Post to the Staff

As the coin was struck "out of collar"(plantchett too small), the copper appears ragged on the edge. Have a look at the edge below the bust on the obv. See the piece of copper hanging doen?
