i have posted this coin quite some time ago. since then I read a thread on a different forum, where someone posted a nearly similar coin - but it was determined that his was NOT the 1909 1DO-002. my coin exhibits all of the die markers as shown on coppercoins site, including the "die clash" on both sides of the coin. since the extra thickness is not entirely obvious to me, is there any chance that this coin is NOT the 1DO-002. thanks

Good question. Can't wait to hear from the pros on this one. I have had coins in the past that had all markers listed but was told mine was not a doubled die either. I don't understand how a different die can have exact markers, and not the doubling.

Where do you people find the information about die markers ,dies and such to determine where these coins originated from and which dies were used?

As dbrablec said, for Lincolns, go to coppercoins.com, find the die variety search link in the upper left of the page and you can choose year, mintmark, etc. An exhaustive resource.

Never know until you ask! If you are a Lincoln lover like I am, you will find yourself on that website for days on end! I am truly thankful for the work they have done.

Some markers happen because of the same events happening over and over. Clashes, cleanings, die cracks/chips/breaks. Bit if you look very closely the die crack may be in a different direction that may be from a different die. First you need to determine if the variety exists on your coin. Second check to see if markers match known die states. Some markers come and go during the dies life. Markers on fields can flatten with time and eventually disappear. Cracks and breaks only get worse with continued use. To look for a marker first is to search for a car with a dented fender and assume it is a rare car. Thing happen during a dies life, over and over, thus the reason for thought: A marker may or may not be present on all coins from a certain die. Just depending on the marker and how soon the die received that marker. Hope this helps?
