AU details but it has wipe marks across the neck, luster is still pretty good though and the hair details and breast feathers are strong. I see a dark area surrounding the mint mark, that makes me immediately suspicious without getting a closer look. 1932 D&S coins in higher grades are frequently found with added mintmarks but not too prevalent in the lower circulated grades. The dark area could be solder flux, glue, or even just odd toning on a real mint mark. If you have ever heard of the tv show Pawn Stars, they had someone wanting to sell an MS 1932D a few weeks ago. Turns out it was a regular 1932P quarter with a D mint mark added  Edited by biokemist6

I am with bio here. AU, probably cleaned or wiped, questionable mm. I also don't like that brown toning on the back. If real, still a key date.

Should I get a zoom of the mintmark? If so, is one angle better than another? I'm fairly confident of it's authenticity, it's the advertised grade I'm not sure about. Should I send it in to be authenticated/graded? Edited by Scooby Due

At AU the coin is worth $350-$400 so the value is there to justify the cost of slabbing. If authenticated it will also dispel future buyers questions regarding whether the MM is authentic or not.
Given the hair lines on the front I would recommend sending it to ANACS.
As for a zoom shot on the MM I think shots straight on and from different angles would be advised.

I would agree that an original 32D would be $350-$400, but a cleaned one would be considerably less...

Oh no, please don't tell me this coin has been cleaned. If I zoom in on that area, would you be able to tell a little better, or is it a foregone conclusion. Any chance at all it's just wear? I'm start to really tilt toward disappointment, The ad DEFINITELY didn't say anything about it being cleaned.

Scooby, Based on your pics the hair lines are going across Washingtons neck. Are they just going across the neck or are they basically across the entire coin. You may want to take some pics at different angles and uploade them so we can see how prevalent the hail lines are. Quote:

Thanks for the feedback.
JimR, not sure if the scratches go all the way across or not. I posted those pics this morning before work. I will post some more pics this evening when I get home, along with some closeups of the MM.

Scooby for clarification what I am asking is whether or not the hairlines only go across the coin but also from the top to the bottom of the coin in a consistent direction.
We will take a look at your pics later and see what information those yield.

I'm starting to gain some knowledge in this ..... so please accept my input at maybe 10% of the value of the experts .... The first thing I saw in the photos was potential cleaning based on the light, but obvious, parallel scratches on the obverse that cross the neck into the right hand side field. I don't have enough experience to judge the MM ..... There could be many real reasons why this coin is genuine ..... perhaps better photos will help the experts ... Sorry about the delay - orked much later than I thought we would tonight. Anyway, after reading all the comments and taking some of the up close shots, I'm starting to feel a little sick. Ad said: " A very nice coin. Bright with no scratches, showing no wear.

In my opinion its definitely been wiped. The MM does not look right to me. It appears there is some solder or some substance underneath the MM. However I am not an expert in this and would wait to see some other members take on the MM.
If the seller has a return policy in effect I would contact them and send it back due to the fact that it has been cleaned.
