So basically Thad what your saying is loss of detail noted is strike related and not wear related.I really felt this was an AU coin.

Bio at what grade did you purchase this coin?

Jim - That's what I'm saying. For a 22D this coin is well-struck. At minimum this is an AU coin. On a slider coin like this it's very hard to judge from pictures....it may even be tough to judge in hand. This is exactly the kind of coin I like sending to a TPG, not that they'd get it right either. LOL ....but at least you'd have a grade assigned.

What grade do you think it is biokem?

I knew this one would stir the pot but you can never have enough 22-Ds to grade I got this from my shop's bid board last week. I paid Fine money for it and figured it was probably VF-30. Once I got it home under some stronger light and photographed it, my grade crept up and I now think it is probably a solid AU. It is definitely circulated but there is abundant luster left in the protected areas and the fields have an even glossy look to them. There is a bit of circulation dirt on it and I think the luster will pop a bit more once the coin is properly conserved. I initially took a liking to it because of the nice strong D mintmark, that is tough to find on any 22-D

Fine money? WOW! You cleaned-up on that one!

Based on what you've said, I change my grade to AU-55. :)
