Zanzibar is an island off the coast of eastern Africa. It was an independent sultanate under German protection at the time the coin was made, but in 1890 Germany swapped it for Helgoland, a small island owned by Britain off the German coast.
Zanzibar federated with the mainland country of Tangyanyika in 1964 to form the modern republic of Tanzania. The "Zan" in Tanzania derives from Zanzibar.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
