The first thing that strikes me about this coin is just how sharp the reeded edge is....and it leaves me wondering how many hungry nights were endured by someone during the depression while this coin lay there, completely forgotten in that little envelope? That may be the most amazing thing about it.

Also....I am out of acetone, so the reverse still has the glue residue on it.

What do you think? Have it conserved by NCS?

I'm providing links so you can see larger images. By the time you squeeze them to 90K, they aren't much use.

AU-58 FH in my opinion! Obverse is beautiful! Reverse, not so much. I would just go to the hardware store and buy some more acetone and give it a dip, see if it helps.

Wow. That is one beautiful SLQ. I love it! Its definitely worthy of professional conservation such as what NCS can provide.

I think I did pretty well with this one. I'm having trouble capturing the mint luster under the toning, but I'll jazz up the lighting and see if I can cut through it.

I really love the obverse toning....you are finding lots of great deals and taking risks at the right times. Congratulations!

There are great deals on ebay all the time. The risk taking...I'll admit there's a huge element of luck involved, but I don't play the lotto. That's the only kind of gambling I do. Sometimes it comes up "craps", but I've done OK overall.

Yeah, I think the risk here is that a lot of unscrupulous sellers use "blurred" photos to hide major problems, like a deep scratch or a whiz job; or even to hide the diagnostics of a counterfeit....then make up an innocent sounding story to make it seem like they don't know what they are talking about. This happens on ebay all the time.

I'm like you though, I like to take "educated" risks, and lately it has been serving me quite well. I purchased a poorly photographed 1844-D half eagle for $660, then turned around and sold it for $1,160 several weeks later. Even still, the pleased buyer left me feedback stating what an amazing deal he got at $1,160! Also purchased 2 1921 slqs for melt, sold one for $70(the buyer got a good deal here too) and I'm keeping the other for my set. It's fun when you not only get a great bargain, but share some of the wealth around with the next owner.

However, several years ago, I got burned pretty bad with a counterfeit $3 gold piece ; but I learned a lot through that experience, and more than made up for it.

Sorry, got off topic. Keep posting your finds, and good luck!

When I'm confronted with blurry pictures, I look at everything the seller is offering. If they can't take pictures of anything close up....fine, but if they are listing coins, and some of the pictures are remarkable, and others not so, then I'll take a pass. These folks didn't even have any other coins, so I thought it was probably on the up and up.

You only paid $660 for the coin you sold me? Now I feel ripped off!
