Going through a large pile of fish scales I came across this oddity.. It is clearly over punched on top of another coin....Now some might think ghosting but you can see the 19087 is punched on top ..... Any ideas?

I agree with coinsrfun. A 1910 whacked against it. With a hammer.

Nope both wrong No way a 1910 was whacked against it.... Take a close up and you will see the 1908 is over the top of what ever is underneath... Had a 1910 been whacked over it the indentations would show up on the surface of the words cent , Canada , and 1908 .. not underneath as is the c ASE

I see what you mean. I should look closer!
It was the backward letters/numbers that I was focusing on.
It is odd.

Very interesting. There is mirror image of another 5 cent coin. You have to read the date for us. You can see the rim imprint. Check the circles I put on your pic. Cool coin. :-)

Hi Coins..... Yes I also noted the rim imprint... The same is seen on the Obverse side as well.. and on closer look you can see some type of doubling on the King.

Now back to the under date... When I put a large pic in the mirror what I see is _ 016 Now I'm not sure that it is a zero.. We all know that there is no date like that... I know its a Canadian coin underneath because we can see the word Canada... Maybe someone was testing or setting up another die? possibly just testing #'s and left the Planchet in when the 1908 was punched? I would like to know the story on this one....

Hey Coins... I showed my daughter the large pic in the mirror and got laughed at.... Teens .. anyhow she pointed out something ..Dad maybe the # you think is a 0 is actually a 9 with the top portion just not showing... Now that would make sense... 1916 ..

So now the mystery deepens..How could someone take a 1916 and over punch a 1908 die over top? So my question now is..... Could the under punch have been some type of die test , or settup using the 1916 date and repunched over top with the correct 1908...... They are accountable for all the planchets so doing this would not waste one?

Very interesting coin. How could it have met a 1916 coin or punch in 1908? Like something from the Twighlight Zone.

Until I had a coin like this in hand I gotta stay on the fence with this one. I have over 300 5 cent error coins. That looks wild. Artdio....I have many silver 50 cent coins if you catch my drift....lol

perhaps it is rotated and is a 1909 double struck on top of the 08?
Not so either as all the leafs seem to be ok..
the 1 in 1908 also seems to be not right

Well Coins..., I'm not sure about coin in hand , lol but would you settle for a super large pic sent to you and anyone else who wants a better look...... I would send to I..S maybe but I think this one might even buffalo those guys..... I have shown it to many collectors and all they can say is GOT ME , some type of really weird error...

And DBM lol Twilight zone.....hahaha I actually thought of that, .... But on the serious side what I meant was maybe the operator of the press was trying to align the numbers and just placed the 1916 to check alignment and once satisfied pressed the 1908 on top? I guess this is one that might never get figured out...

NOw back to Coins.? .I have many silver 50 cent coins if you catch my drift....lol

Sorry am I missing something, this old mind must be going ,lol unlesss you are insinuating something fromm China?
