Recommended Scanner? - Coin Community Forum

HippieOutcast Pillar of the Community United States 615 Posts	Posted 03/11/2010 10:47 am My scanner maxes out at 1200 dpi. I'm looking to upgrade, is there a specific scanner that people use that is recommended? Report this Post to the Staff

Mine goes to 900 and I have found it to be quite detailed although I am trying not to scan coins.It just doesn't show the true eye colors.Mine is a canon used for printing digital pics. HippieOutcast Pillar of the Community United States 615 Posts	Posted 03/11/2010 12:35 pm It would be cheaper for me to get a scanner than invest in all the necessary items needed to take decent pictures with a digital camera. Also - I find the scanner saves me quite a bit of time when I'm getting 100+ things scanned. The reason I would like to try something with a higher DPI, is my scanner lacks quality when scanning small, dark items. Sap Moderator Australia 16817 Posts	Posted 03/11/2010 4:46 pm I have an old HP scanner that goes up to 4200 dpi and does an excellent job on most coins, even at standard 200 or 300 dpi. It's only drawback is an excessively long warmup time. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S.
