My scanner maxes out at 1200 dpi. I'm looking to upgrade, is there a specific scanner that people use that is recommended?

Hi Hippie, I use a canon and it only goes to 1200 dpi.... Not sure if there is anything higher and mine is brand spanking new.... Have you tried using a Digital camera?

Hippy. Mine goes to 900 and I have found it to be quite detailed although I am trying not to scan coins. It just doesn't show the true eye colors.Mine is a canon used for printing digital pics.

It would be cheaper for me to get a scanner than invest in all the necessary items needed to take decent pictures with a digital camera. Also - I find the scanner saves me quite a bit of time when I'm getting 100+ things scanned.

The reason I would like to try something with a higher DPI, is my scanner lacks quality when scanning small, dark items. Everything else scans fine, but I lose most details and overall quality when I scan something small and dark.

I have an old HP scanner that goes up to 4200 dpi and does an excellent job on most coins, even at standard 200 or 300 dpi. It's only drawback is an excessively long warmup time.
