SuperDave,

I just bought a lightly used, near new condition Canon S2 IS on ebay. $77 shipped. (Finally got my macro.) The S2 arrived today & the copy stand is coming in about a week.

I know you've had a lot of experience with the S2.

Recommended settings on a pic like this? Macro or SuperMacro? Autofocus? Inches from coin? And how did you get it so big? Different settings for coins the size of Lincoln Cents?

Also, if the S2 has Macro & SuperMacro mode, why would a person add a Macro lens like the 250D or 500D? Sharper image? Necessary or overkill? What about this? http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Conce...33762&sr=1-8 Or this? http://www.amazon.com/Zeikos-ZE-CU4...cr_pr_sims_t

Also, I'm using Picasa 3.6. Other software suggestions or is Picasa good enough?

If I remember, I worked in Macro rather than Super Macro. 6-8" from the coin, autofocus always, and it's that big because that's what the camera gave me.

The advantage of a lens like the 250D or 500D lies in its' ability to let you place the camera further from the subject while getting the same final image size. I strongly advise that you learn the camera before deciding to attach another lens - that way lies frustration.

Play. Learn the camera. Try every setting. As a rough starting point, use full Manual mode with settings like this: f/5.6, ISO 200, 1/100 exposure. That'll vary with the light but the first shot will let you know what direction to go.

Feel free to post any results here, and we can walk through the steps to correct any problems.

Last comment, on the Amazon link: you get what you pay for. There's a reason why a 500D is close to $100 and those sets are less than $20.
