Ha, If anyone gets that reference, let me know. Here's the coin in question. Notice the "growths" in the feathers above B and E, as well as the two near the forehead, including on L of LIBERTY. I don't think this could have been a planchet flaw, as those spots surely would have been flattened out during the strike. They do appear to be "in" the coin and not really damage, but I could be mistaken. My guess is that it is a die issue. Can anyone shine some light on this?   |

I'm undecided...there is discoloration around those bumps.  That could be some kind of solder or corrosion too. And these are odd places/shapes for die chips--and that far into the die. I'd expect corresponding deterioration in the legends too. It's not something documented by Rick Snow. |

they are too raised to be die chips. Also, the discoloration, as someone noticed, points to post-mint damage.

I'm gonna say copper solder a few years ago and it was worn along with the coin.

Copper solder?
That's a new one on me. I know of the solder used "way back when", we built our own radio receivers, and transmitters, etc. latet silver solder was uded in the jewelry shop. but copper? would you casre to elaborate?
I was thinking the coin migh have been dropped accidently, in a work shop, out of the pockets of one of the workers, and

during a "cutting" process, some molton metal might have spattered onto the coin. Far-fetched, but who knows?
By the "reference", would you be referring to the columnist, "Ask Abby"?
razorear, would you mean actually that it was "toads', rather than froglegs? I have had my share of legs, but no warts. I stay clear of the the toads!
