Hey

What does this coin grade? What is it worth? It looks to be in really good condition to me. It does have a few marks on it though. I pulled this out of a role of half dollars today. The halves came from a really small town with only one bank. There is not telling how long this has been in that bank. I was very excited. I've never found anything older than a Ben.

Thanks for looking

It seems kind of porous and shallow.

Here are images of a genuine 1871 half from a Heritage auction. This coin was graded AU details, cleaned by ANACS. The poster's coin seems like a close match in terms of design features, so I'd say it's likely genuine. Stumpy, you should check the weight (it should be very close to 12.4 grams). If it is significantly lighter you can be confident it is a fake.

Assuming it's real, that's a remarkable find, even cooler than the occasional Barber half finds reported on the forum. I'd grade it VF-30 for details. With the scratches and corrosion spots it should be net-graded down to the F-12 price level or so. You could probably get $50 or so on ebay, maybe a bit more. Congrats!

It looks genuine to me. I'd be a bit more optimistic than Jaobler and go EF details and net it to VF. I agree the $50 would be a fair price.

Great roll find!

That's an amazing roll find, I'd grade it at VF-30 scratched.

That's an awesome roll find! Especially in that condition.

As most people have stated this one is straddling the VF/XF Fence.
It looks VF30-35 to me. Looking at my grading book there needs to be a little more claw detail and gown clasp detail to put it in the XF category. It also the feather detail is a little to worn for XF
