Way cool. Are these legal tender? I thought Antarctica was part of the U.S.A. Just wondering. Thanks,

Antarctica is actually claimed by a few different countries all having the right to a space there. There must be some type of exchange rate set up for the currency but I had no idea.

They're polymer (that's the 'plastic material'). You can get them at banknotes.com - they have lots of different types. Here's their country list: http://www.banknotes.com/ISOcodes.htm

Here's some I need:
http://www.banknotes.com/kt3.htm
http://www.banknotes.com/kt1.htm < really like the design on that one

Wonder if they're redeemable.. but I'm afraid to ask where I'd exchange them at!

These are actually not currency in and of themselves, but are exchange notes for the Antarctic Overseas Exchange Company. http://www.bankofantarctica.com/about.php

They print these tyvek notes with a different design every year, and sell them for a premium through their website. They say they will honour the face value of their notes, but I've never tried it.

The notes have become rather popular with lots of collectors however; I have one too. :)

Antactica has many "owners". The back of the 2 Dollar note is the New Zealand part. The 3 Dollar bill have the Norwegian part. Also Gret Britain, Australia, France, Chile, and Argetnina have made some territorial claims of a peice of land/ice

My plan is to go to Antactica and buy me a nice meal of food with my Antarctican Dollar. Maybe I can have some Penguin sticks?

BTW, I like the "Kingdom of Time" bill. Hopefully I can buy me some extra seconds?

Antartica is actually claimed up like a big pie.

Antarctica!

I've seen those notes before; they're really neat. I like the one with the penguins on it lol. This makes me wonder about other such novelty notes.

@Halfwitty: Haha, I will remember that!

@Uhhhh: Yeah, and what a great pie it is then! Found a site where you can do your own banknotes (http://www.noveltybanknotes.com), costs €5 though..

@scott3270: Awesome, then we can have us a great local Antarctican meal!
