I was rolling up some pennies and came across a 1949 penny from Great Britain. It's about the size of an american 50 cent piece. On the front is GEORGIVS VI D;G;BR;OMN;REX FIDEI DEF. Any advice on the coin?

It's a fairly common one (mintage 14 million), with no major die or mintmark varieties for that date listed in Krause. CV is 35¢ in VF, $7.50 in Unc.

The 1949 1d. is extremely common. The 2 dates that are worth quite a lot of money are the 1950 & 1951.
There was around 100,000 pieces struck in each of these 2 years.A whole lot of them were found in Bermuda,of all places! British (& British Commonwealth) collectors are always looking for them.
I was lucky to get one of each,as I work part-time in the numismatic trade myself.I get a lot of good stuff through my work.

Thanks for the info. I don't do any collecting but was suprised to see such a large coin being a penny. Still trying to remember how I got it, probably got it as change thinking it was a tarnished half dollar.
Rest in Peace

Welcome to the forum.

Even though you are not a collector, perhaps sometime you will give it a try. Great hobby.

I have all the large English pennies from 1888 until the country changed to decimal. The large pennies are among my favorite collections.
