hi folks

I've got over one hundred 1shilling English coins. Most are from teh 1940's with a couple being from the 1930's

after a quick look on ebay a 1940's coin is worth about £1 sterling with the 1930's coin being worth £10 in Unc

My question is whether there is a market there to sell these coins together as a lot or maybe it would be better to break them up? Or whether they would sell at all? what price would you expect for them?what reserve if any?

most seem to be in a good condition, see the attached image. Thanks for the help

British "silver" coins changed from 50% silver alloy to cupronickel in 1947, so anything 1946 and earlier is "real" silver, thus intrinsically worth more. If you're going to sell them in bulk, it may be better to sort them that way first.

Personally, I don't do much selling, but if I were you I'd sort them into dates, pick the best quality of each date to assemble as near-complete a set as possible, then sell it as three lots: circulated date set, circulated bulk silver and circulated cupronickel.

Excellent advice as usual sap thanks

What dates would constitute a complete set? If I can remember I think mine go from 1937 to the late 40's and I think there is one there fom the early fifties

Well, a complete set of, say, George VI shillings would comprise one coin from every year from 1937 to 1951. Be aware that starting in 1937, Britain struck two different types of shilling in each year: the "English type" with a lion standing sideways on a crown, and the "Scottish type" with a lion sitting facing on a crown holding a sword and sceptre.

There aren't any really scarce dates in this period; though 1938 is scarcest in both types, it doesn't command much of a premium.
