I picked this up a couple months ago for $125.00. I thought I did OK. What do you all think of this piece. I may upgrade the coin to something with original surfaces if something arises, but I thought this was an OK hole filler at that price for my Dansco. Chance

I think the Details grade makes AU, and that one's gonna make you a tidy profit when you go to upgrade.

I think it's a killer coin for that price - assuming authenticity which I am sure you have verified already.
If I am reading correctly, you allude to the fact that it's been cleaned at some point in it's past, but it appears that this did not detract from a pleasing appearance and great details.
I'd buy that coin in a heartbeat at $125.

Yes, it's genuine. Weight and diameter are correct, and it compares favorably to examples on heritage. There's little doubt that it's been cleaned, but not harshly or abrasively. This was a "best offer" listing. I just asked the seller what the "bottom line" was for immediate payment, and he said 125.00...with free shipping. There seem to be an awful lot of Trade dollars in "problem free" holders that should have been details graded. Look at this NGC AU-58....and tell me that hasn't been cleaned. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...=8489&src=prChance

AU details all day long. And re-toning very nicely. Congrats!

Re: The Heritage NGC See, that's what bugs me about TPG's sometimes. Either someone sandpapered the plastic holder or that coin is covered in hairline scratches. I suspect the latter. How that coin gets in that holder and why someone pays $431 for it is beyond me. Your coin is much nicer.

I think that coin's riddled with hairlines....and that my specimen would probably grade. I believe that it's the "authentication" from the TPGs that drives the price up. Folks aren't comfortable with raw coins because the counterfeiting has been so rampant.

I agree Chance. I would not buy one of these unless it was TPGd.

That's a lot of coin for $125, IMO. It's nicely struck up, definitely high AU details, but the tiny amount of luster around the stars indicates a cleaning, in the presence of so much detail. Are those scratches to the left of Lady LIb's knee, or just little scuffs? Very nice for a type set.

Nice deal, very strong AU, relief details are still sharp and crisp on both sides. Not much wear but enough to keep it AU.

I think those scuffs were carelessly caused by an album slide. The older the albums get, the more difficult the slides become to maneuver. There is 1 way to see them and a hundred ways not to. The light just caught them in that shot.
