Here's the older thread with the pics of this note. I'm glad that Downies has confirmed that it's fair dinkum and accepted it for sale, and that we were able to help steer you in the right direction. The catalogue for the July auction isn't available yet (auction #305).

Maybe you could retire? Buy a nice place on Sydney Harbor or Coffs and live the good life?

Thanks for the help from the people on this site. The catlogue wont be out for a bit yet it will be one to look out for. It wont be anywhere near enough for me to retire haha but it will make my life a little easier. Yeah a few different people that checked out the note confirmed it was original as soon as they looked at it.

Just out of curiosity, how many people buy or sell things through downies that also use this site?

Well bigd.I would imagine that very few big money folks mess around with any type of sites and blogs.I am just guessing on this of course but.....the note that you have is probably something that regular folks can't play with. It is great to watch a fellow community person to make a really good sale though.May Matilda lie her head on your auction. Hehehehe

Cheers, I think about matilda hahaha, I'm not talking so much as expencive items, just coins or notes that they need or want that are cheap enough for them to buy through auction houses. I mean there are only a few ways to get your hands on something you want in reguards to coins and notes.

I've never bought anything from Downies myself; my entire annual coin budget would be blown on just a few lots in a typical Downies catalogue. But I know several guys at my coin club that frequent Downies auctions and purchase from them quite a bit, though none of them are in it for the rare banknotes, to my knowledge.

I buy at their auctions frequently, and I am glad that it was the real deal. I might even be there to see how it goes.

That's a bummer. I have been waiting to see what happens with your note. Was the price too high? Although I have no clue about your note here in the USA some of the high end notes are not moving at all. Recently at an auction one large lot which was a lifetime worth of collecting (Various historical US notes and saw it in an article) did not even get a bid and had numerous one of a kind high end notes. A lot of this has to do with the economy / high end buyers playing wait and see games / who is going to fold first etc (jmo). You have the right sprit - At least people know there is "ONE" out there and you have it. Peace

I think people are waiting on the outcome of the enquiry into self managed superannuation. If the recommendations in the report are accepted, coins and banknotes will no longer be acceptable as investments for superannuation, despite outperforming the share market. Would I be cynical in saying all those extra 100's of millions will help prop up an ailing share market? If the recommendations are accepted, anyone having coins or notes as part of their fund will have 5 years to sell them.

I was told when I got to the auction that the feel of the place was that the note would not sell, I will tell you now, which I havent previous, but the reserve was 25k, I got offered from between 16k to 22k before the auction, so I thought well if people start getting into a bidding war it would reach the reserve at least, especially as though this note was graded a few times as being better then fine which puts it around the 25k+ mark. With all the research and talking to people, 25k is what me and my family came up with aswell. Well it didnt get sold and you know what, this note will not be on sale for at least the next 20 years now. I think the economy had alot to do with it as well as the previous post about the superannuation which I had not heard about cos I was thinking about putting it into my super but wasnt sure how to go about it, I wont bother now, thank you for the heads up! A few other high end notes didnt sell either so I know it just wasnt my note. Oh well!
