Hey,

So as many of you guys probably know, when you spend money on ebay you get ebay bucks, which count as a coupon of sorts on ebay purchases. Well, I have accumulated $5 worth of it.

I am currentely working on the Dansco 7070, and I am a YN under a tight budget. Here are the coins I have:

1831 - 1 cent coin (large)
(2) IKE bicentennial dollar
1906 Liberty nickel
1915 Barber quarter
1868 & 1866 & unknown Shield nickel
Kennedy bicentennial half dollar
1856 seated liberty quarter(?)
1986 statue of liberty half dollar
1919 Mercury dime
1906, 1907 Indian Head penny
1908 barber nickel
Unknown Buffalo nickel
1941 & 1944 Wheat penny
1979 (2) Susan B Anthony dollar
2000 (2) Sacagawea dollar
1979 Kennedy half dollar
Bicentennial quarter
George Washington commemorative coin
1960-2009 complete penny set
1936, 1941, 1944, 1952, 1957 pennies - 1916, 1925, 1926, 1928, 1939, 1940, 1943 steel, 1944-1949, 1950-1958 (MINUS 1954, 1956)
1891 Morgan dollar
2006 Walking liberty silver dollar
1992 Columbus half dollar

I was thinking of using the $5 and adding $10 to purchase a 1963 proof mint set, which would fill a few holes in my dansco: the Franklin half, the silver dime, the silver quarter, the LMC, and the modern nickel - all in all 5 holes filled. Should I do this or get some older US coin which would fill another hole which is in good condition(VG+)? Any advice?

In the end, it depends on what you want to do. Both, if chosen carefully, are good choices and will benefit you and the Dansco 7070. You can always buy the proof set, and then save up for the older U.S coins, or vice versa.

Games. You seem to be going through the same situation that I went through for years of collecting. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I have found after a few years that being all over the place is not the way that I should have gone all along. You mentioned finding a good coin and getting that one. What type of coin do you find interesting? Whether you get a proof set or a nice coin is something that should be "inside" of you.The key is,I think,is to decide on one direction and go with it.There are so many ways of collecting that I have decided to go just 2 ways and make them the best I can manage and afford.JMO.

Well, since I am trying to do a dansco 7070, I need 1 of each us coin. Now I am in no hurry, but I'd like to buy a coin every chance I get. So my main desire is to finish the dansco right now, not any particular coin.

well then.. since you're a "right now" kinda person, filling those *5* holes might be the best way instead of going for just the *1*.

As you go for any harder parts of the collection, looking at more filled holes might make for more motivation for filling the remaining few?

Just a thought.. but I've never done a 7070, and I collect nearly everything I can get my hands on. Which means the only holes I am worried about are the ones in my wallet!

That sounds like me! AS for your question, I would say buy the 63 set and worry about the other holes later.

Same with me. I go to coin shows and buy until I run out of money and when I get home is when I really look to see what I purchased.

Don't know where you live and if there are any coin shows in your area, but you should really try to find out. If you do have some, go to them way before you buy from ebay. At most coin shows you do NOT pay for postage, handling, insurances, paypal, lost in mail, wrong item sent, free parking, admittance fees, just for the coins. And you see exactly what your getting.

Just Carl - I have to spend these bucks or they disappear, so I don't have much choice - I have to use ebay
