How much will the small scratches on the left side of the breast take away from a higher grade? Thanks.

freewheel,

Sorry to say they will probably render the coin non-gradable from PCGS or NGC and a net grade from ANACS. PCGS would probably holder it as "Genuine". These marks would probably be considered "tooling". They do not appear random, but rather an intentional effort to alter the surface for unknown reasons.

This would have been a nice coin if some one hadn't harshly cleaned it. It looks like they used some kind of metal abrasive especially on the left wing and side. I agree this would come back as ungradable.

It's too bad, the obverse is beautiful, nice luster, crispness in the details of the lady's hair and face. I agree with the others, the scratches on the reverse will hurt it's chances for grading.

I wish people would learn to not clean old things because it diminishes the value dependning on the item.

I had a guy come to me with an 1863 Springfield rifle he thought he could sell, only problem is he cleaned off the natural aging with a wire brush thinking he'll get more for it if it shines!

Tis a pity, I paid about $25 for 10 years ago. I guess it is still worth that but why do people do such things?

People, mostly those who know nothing about antiques, seem to the think the shinier, the higher value when in fact it's the opposite.

My younger brother bought a Lee Enfield .303 British rifle several years ago and the person who sold it to him put a new stock on it. I told my brother its too bad the orginal stock wasn't still on the gun it would be worth way more in orignal condition.
