Would soaking in acetone get rid of the green fingerprint residue? If so, how long would I soak it for? If not, would another method be better?

Try water first, then acetone and finally xylene. I seriously doubt you'll have an effect on the finger print though. A couple hours in each should do.

Scooby, if this is for an album collection, I would try and get another 2006 coin. Not sure there is much that will remove the fingerprint from it.

Thanks for the feedback. No, not for an album, pulled it from a roll last night and I think it's one of the minor DDO's.

Ahhh fingerprints ...

These are oils and other impurities. When fresh, they can be completely removed with the solvents mentioned here.

Now the bad news ... they are slightly acidic and if left on the surface of the coin, will etch the outline of the fingerprint into the metal. Nothing short of a grinder will remove these etchings. The old fingerprints you see on coins are actually etchings.

That's a real shame.

On a side note, anyone else notice that copper looks a little funny after an acetone bath?
