With over 500 pounds of hoarded copper cents, I never got a "steely" in cent searching. My last box of cents had 3! Someone must have been unloading.

I still haven't found a "steelie" in all the boxes I've searched.

i think I've only found one. I almost didn't notice it because the color was off. it looked more copper than steel.

I think most coin sorting machines would reject steelies because they are magnetic, which means you are extremely unlikely to find one in a box.

I have found 2 of them in the reject slots on CoinStar machines. I also had a customer wrapped roll that had 5 steels in it.

I got one from 7-Eleven in change last year (in Canada)! Like you, jedichef, mine was discolored enough to blend in.

I've heard some roll-searchers claim that steels show up less often than IHC!

The junk store down the road sells wheat rolls for $3. One day I bought sevaral rolls and one of the rolls was all steelies. The next time I stopped in I told the lady about what I foundand she said " is that right". I ask for more rolls and as she pulled them out she noticed at both ends were steel cents. She opened the roll and it was all steelies. She bought that roll, I didnt mind, but she said she'll never doubt me again. The stores supplier is suppose to have hundreds of barrels of wheaties.

Sweet find, bugzilla46310! It seems that they are steel out there! HAHA *crickets*

I found one in a customer-wrapped roll last year. It was in the middle of about 15 other wheaties. Someone has obviously emptied out their old coin jar.

Also, 500 POUNDS of copper?! You've been busy!

Did not see if they were P, D, or S. Just tossed them into the jar for future sorting, i.e. wheaties, shiners, defects, etc.
I'm shooting for a ton of copper. Gets costly at times as some times I go through a box in 2 evenings. Better half feels I am neglecting important honey doos!
