It's actually a bad time of year to be doing this...right at tax time, because there will be many a deal come up the week before april 15th. I'm going to have to bite a hole in my lip to keep from buying. That type 1 is a great coin...even wiped. It's just a shame somebody had to do that. I stopped at the 20 cent piece...and am going to take a little break, and will commence with dimes down to Half Cents later this evening. Chance

Hey Chance if you have any higher grade Trade dollars, could you run them past me first? I have $500 transferring to my Paypal but it will be available after the auctions end. Thanks, Coins92

I speak for myself Chance ... but am sure several other newer members here feel the same way ...... I feel bad in one way for your need to sell these treasured coins ..... but hope you make what you need for them. I checked out the auctions ..... and feel much regret that as a newbie to coins I do not know a good deal from a bad one .... or how to tell an 'altered' coin from a real one in these classic series. I have the income and $$ to bid ..... but quite honestly do not have the knowledge to do so ..... nor the time to do the research given my 60-hour work week. Soooooo ..... I would welcome any honest tips from you ..... My suggestion is that you share with us CCF coin newbies some 'suggestions' about the coins you feel are most special ..... help us to overcome the knowledge gap ..... so we can best support you and perhaps get a great coin in the exchange. Just a thought from me ... David

Wow....I missed a couple posts. Sorry. I already listed my one and only Trade dollar earlier this afternoon. It's been dipped, but not mechanically cleaned. I'm probably not the best one to give a buyer tips...because I'm the seller, but I'm sure that if you were to ask the forum what they thought about a given piece, they'd be more than happy to share. It could be a conflict of interest for me to advise you directly. Just ask on the forum. Though I'm not completely in the dark about this stuff, there are lots of knowledgeable people here....more knowledgeable than me. My "big thing" is to try and divulge everything I know about a coin so that the buyer knows what they're getting themselves into. I don't like surprises and don't like my buyers having to deal with them either. I have a single 2 center coming up....an 1865 in AU brown. Chance

Thanks...That's a nice coin. You can see the same die crack on the reverse (through the ONE in ONE DOL.) on a couple heritage examples, so if you want to do some research there...you can verify for yourself that this one's real. That's how I can guarantee it's real.
I still have some classic gold to list....but that's probably going to happen tomorrow. I've been listing since about 9 am, and I'm getting bleary eyed.

Quote: I'm dying to see how some of these auctions go... that wiped SLQ -- wow! Agreed, one beautiful coin, even with damage. I will be bidding on this one, however I am sure it will go beyond my means. I love Dave Ramsey, try to listen any time I can. He makes a lot of sense. Maybe you could post a few here and save the fees.

This should prove interesting, let us see what these coins go for. Maybe we could get a short analysis on what your best 'investments' were?
You're just changing course in your collecting. Good luck.

I've been buying and selling on ebay since 1995, and the strangest phenomena that I have seen...again and again, is that the bidding pools are seperate. Most who shop buy it now listings do not participate much in open bidding, and vice versa. I have had coins sell in open bidding that languished for a month in a fixed price listing....and at the end of the day, the auction bidder's paid more than I'd had it listed for in the fixed price listing. You have to be willing to throw caution to the wind though a bit. That's why all of my auctions start at 99 cents. You have to have as many folks interested as possible, and the only way to accomplish that is to start low. Still time to get in on a half an ounce of gold in that Congressional Bicentennial set of commemoratives. It's got a single 99 cent bid on it. I may elect to run some of this stuff past members, but I want to do this quickly. I chose 5 day auctions yesterday because I knew I'd never list everything in one day. I'll be back at it in just a little while, commencing with nickels, down to Half Cents, and then I have 5 gold coins. When I'm done with the auctions....I'm going to run an auction here for the rest of the coins in the Dansco...along with the album. I'll be leaving the halves from Franklin forward, quarters from washington forward, dimes from Roosevelt forward, nickels from Jefferson forward, the Lincoln cents, and all of the moderns on the supplemental page, including a commemorative dollar and a silver eagle. That should prove to be fun. Thanks.......Chance

I plan on being the next owner of that 1847 Dollar. I need it for my type. I love thinking about the history of that piece!

I agree with this observation. Part of the problem is that there's a lot of overpriced Buy it Now's out there. So, I think people look at a good Buy it Now price and just immediately assume the worst.
