1958 D LWC (Overdate?)

What do you think/know is the small spur inside the "8?"

I think they stopped making over dates long before the 1950's so it's not an over date. I am going to say it's a die gouge, but I am no pro it's just my opinion. Let's wait for the pro's.

It's a master die doubling on the upper left of the 8 in the date. Master die gouge to the upper right of the 8. Line through the center a die gouge. The reason there is no 8/7 is that a very high number of dies have that die gouge and extra loop on the 8 is from the mater dies. A very large percentage have this from that year. The master dies contain the Date digits each year. Over dates on 20th Century coins are from using two different hubs, not an over date in the sense of the 19th Century coins.
