Got my coin ( Trade dollar) back from ANACS today. Unfortunately, it has been cleaned, but it is authentic. Graded at AU58! Even though it has been cleaned, I am still pretty satisfied with it. Thanks for the help and encouragement to get it graded. My latest for my 7070. Any ideas on grade? Still having trouble with my photos. Edited by jprine 04/29/2010 9:24 pm

Is that a big die crack on the nickel?
Both coins look great.

They both look solid AU, though I'm a bit concerned about the denticals on the Trade dollar. Maybe it is just the photo, but the rim appears to be much thicker than the denticals in some areas.

That is a die crack on the nickel. It is a really clean coin and was labeled BU; the trade was an AU. I feel like I got a pretty good deal on both.

I am not sure if the dent in the Trade dollar is what is causing the concern but something just strikes me as weird on that coin

Here is my ex PCGS AU-55 1876-s Trade dollar. Look at the difference in the size of the denticals in relation to the outer rim between my coin and the OP's coin. I am very concerned about the authenticity of the OPs coin in this case. jprine, was this coin certified?

johnny65431-it was not certified; however, I bought it from a reputable dealer that I have bought alot from. I will take the coin to work with me next week and weigh it and see how is compares. If it is not right, I wont hesitate to take it back.

I would send it to a TPG, and ask for return priveleges from your dealer if it comes back counterfeit. The problem with counterfeits is that they are so advanced these days that some of the die struck fakes even have the correct weight....they also have been known to fool dealers(so it may not be intentional deception from your dealer). This is a risky coin to buy raw, period. It honestly looks authentic to me in every way except the rim, and the rim issue is a known marker for counterfeits....sooo, I just don't know. Here is a comparison picture regarding what I am talking about.

Good eye Johnny54321. Side by side the difference jumps right out at you. Another great example of the usefulness of this site. Let us know what the verdict is jprine

Johnny54321-I have never submitted a coin to a TPG; but I will take your advice and send this one off tomorrow. I will let you know the verdict. Thanks for the help.

when looking at Johnny's and then looking at mine (even though different date) I have to say I do not think this is going to turn out very well. I really hope I am wrong but the denticals and rim are not even close. I would first weigh the coin before sending it in because if it is off there is no need to waist the money on sending it in

Weighed the coin this morning, it was dead on. So, I pachaged it up and put it in the mail today. Now just have to wait 15 days on the verdict.

Which TPG did you send it to? Good luck, and hopefully we are wrong.

ANACS. This was my first time I have ever submitted a coin. ANACS was my third choice, no membership, etc. I will keep you posted.
