Are these cracks that invoked the corrosion, or is it the corrosion that looks like cracks? Haven't quite seen one like this before.

I think I heard or read that this is contagious to other coins. Is that true?

My first impression of it is that it looks like glue or some kind of sticky junk.

Hmmm. I just assumed it was verdigris. I'll see if it comes off.

Well, soap and water didn't do it, maybe I'll soak it in some acetone tomorrow.

I know it's garbage, I'm just curious as to what it is.

Some type of resin/epoxy. Put it in a pair of needle nose pliers and heat it with a cig. lighter. It will melt.
