Not purely coin related, but feel the need to vent my frustration and share my pain... Today, my coin store was overloaded with a Denial of Service attack. Basically it involved lots of fake ip addresses visiting my store at once, overloading the server. I know who did it. The culprit had the nerve to email me telling me it was him. (Basically, it was someone I had reported for spam, a very nasty character). Fortunately, the joke is on them. I contacted my hosting provider's support desk, sent them the information, now the spamster is in trouble, because they want to hold him responsible and will report him to Austrlia's High Tech Crime Centre. In the meantime, my website is down which is no good. The server also hosts pictures for my ebay auctions so my auctions are running without pictures (if auctions have bids, cannot edit them). Has anyone else experience something like this, or had their coin website hacked? Regards, Peter

I'm not too sure if that works all the time. Sometimes if one wants to be nasty, you can get hit by 10,000 connections at once, that is if you are in the worst case, by at least 10Mbps data request, which most servers can't handle, unless you own an internet provider.
Fortunately in your case, you are able to point a finger to someone. But what if someone that was involved is overseas? You don't really have juristriction for all countries you know.

If your ISP doesn't do it, you should report him yourself. Don't let him get away with it.

If need be, you can remove bids from your items and end the auctions, although that is a lot of work. If you have a secondary site to host your photos, you can add them to the auctions by using the Add to Description link. Sorry to hear of this misfortune. Hope your back up and running soon! tradernick

Thanks for the tips guys, in ebay I added a link to the picture hosted on another server. I don't have many auctions running, but one is of an expensive item, hence my concern... I'm not sure exactly about jurisdiction. BUT, it is a Federal offence, I looked it up: see clauses 477.1-3 of the Australian Commonwealth Criminal Code: http://scaleplus.law.gov.au/html/pa.../686/top.htm. Depending on arrangements with his country (USA), prosecution might still be available. A while back, my guestbook had to be removed as well Richard, too many spam posts (and none coin related!). Hopefully my website will be back up and running tomorrow. I've learned my lesson, next time I report a spamster, maintain full anomynity and don't include my signature (has a link to my website!). --Peter

It's pretty simple. A lot of people won't use it because you have to put in your password (they do not save it). However Vrane is an extremely reputable company and very trustworthy. It is a secure page. I have used this service hundreds of times with no problems. You just put in your ID, password, and auction number(s), and it sends a secure robot to the listing(s) that kills all the bids, then ends the auction. Works like a charm and only takes about 3 seconds per listing.

That is a bit of a worry.....can it be used by someone else to "bomb" other peoples listings.
If not I am sure that in time someone will refine the code to do it.

Well that's perfectly legal then. I thought by "bombing" it mean flooding the auction with fake bids from fake ebay accounts or something like that. Are you still charged for listing fees etc when cancelling in such a way? --Peter
