I'm looking at a 1945 2 peso coin in my local shop. Krause states that a large number of these were restruck from 1951-1972 and that most of the restrikes are dated 1945. Are there diagnostics that might help separate a coin that was minted in 1945 from one minted at a later date? Or am I too hung up on the actual date?

Thanks

There is a very minor change in the gold color. The pre restrikes are more yellow. The restrikes are going to be more of a orange yellow tone. It's difficult to distinguish and the prices are the same- bullion price of spot+5 or 8%.

There are no real key dates in the series except for a semi key of 1920/10. Then there are some low mintages for 1944,1947.

There was even a matte finish restrike in 1996 for a special offering.

Mexico's Casa de Moneda website seems to offer the restrikes for the "Centenario" series: 2, 2 1/2, 5, 10, 20, and the 50 Peso.
