There's the old logic that it makes sense to buy the coins in the highest grade you can afford. Is that still true? Should I by one really nice, MS-64 morgan or several MS-60ish morgans? Keeping in mind that I'm a 13 year old with about $100 a month.

While its true, you should always buy the most coin you can afford, if the coins you are able to buy are years apart, you might tend to lose interest in the collection. With limited income I would buy 0ne 0r two a month of MS coins and as my income increased,I would upgrade the coins I could. This way you are always collecting and tend not to lose interest in your collection.Even lower grade non slabbed Morgans should go up in desireablity over time.
Thats my opinion anyway.

I would have to say buy the highest grade you can afford at the particular time, you can buy 2 MS-64's with just a little over 100 bucks of the common dates. If toy keep checking back in the buy/sell/trade section I have been selling off the coins I am upgrading and all the ones being upgraded are MS-64's and they are in the 50-60 range. A 1921 Morgan can be had in MS-64 for around 40 bucks. I would always go for quality over quantity myself but I guess its also according to what you are wanting to do, are you wanting to start a registry set or are you just wanting to fill a dansco album with BU Morgans, if its the later the MS-60 may be just fine for what you are wanting to do because they would still be in the NU catagory and you could buy 4 a month instead of 2 a month and you could get done alot faster and move on to another series

I have a little different opion on this for you. since you have a somewhat limited budget. If morgan are what you are after. ask your self two questian first I am I doing this to feel the holes in the album or am I doing it to put toghter the best set out there.

I what I would do and think might be best for you is try to put your set togther in AU or beter I wouldn't worry so much about them being MS. I know there are a lot of common dates you can get for under 25 Dollars and that would help you put your set togther alittle faster and they are still very nice to look at. If you set your sights to high you will never be able to finsih your set and I know one of the joys of collecting for me is to finsh set.

I have a Mercury dime set that is not is the best shape vg-ef and I am very happy with it and it is a great since of acomplishment since I am just missing the big one
Just my opion I know most would say buy the nicer ones but I say buy what makes you happy and you can aford

I can tell you, I have not finished a set yet so I dont know what that feels like, but I do know what it feels like to have the #1 registry set and I have to say that feels pretty good, and the only way to do that is to get the best coins you can afford. But like I said if you are wanting to just fill a dansco album with BU Morgans you could definately go with the lower grades and it would give you something to look back on and be proud of. In even MS-60 grades you could probably buy 4 or 5 Morgans a week until you get to the BIG BOYS which are the 92,93,94,95 then you would probably have to save up a couple months to get the MS-60 to fill thise holes. The situation would be the same even if you were doing AU Morgans because even in AU those dates are pretty expensive so why not atleast go with the BU's. Of course that is just my opinion and there are other fine opinions to choose from and decide what you want to do. I guess it is all in what you wish to accomplish with the set you are going to build
