I asked this once before and never got an answer.

But, if I take the coin on the left out of my Dansco and replace it with the one on the right, do I have to worry about any contaminates transferring to the new coin?

I'd worry about it and ask what to do to ensure the hole is clean before placing a new coin in it.

I dont know what the common/right procedure is.

Thanks, Jim. It's been bugging me and I've been afraid to make a move either way. So, now I have this pile of coins waiting for their slots, but I want to make sure I'm not condemning them.

By the way, I got those wheatie rolls in I was telling you about. That guy doesn't know BU from his BH. But, they were upper XF/AU and common as I expected (but did pull a nice XF45 '11D out of it). But, there are still several upgrades in there for me. And for the price, I'm not going to complain. So, I'll try and get you a list soon and we'll talk.

Verdigris can transfer from one coin to another with direct contact. If there are verdigris feed materials (verdigris residue) stuck to the album, they can contribute to the formation of verdigris on the new coin.

On the flip side, if you look at the hole and don't see any verdigris residue and the slide is clean, you shouldn't have any problems as long as the album is stored properly.

Your "hole problem" is one of many reasons I don't like to use albums.

BadThad, how do you store your coins? Do you use the traditional 2x2's? Or mylar flips?

Seems like no matter what you choose, there seems to be drawbacks.

Actually, I recall hearing airtites might be best. Are all brands PVC free? And are there airtite albums?

Ultimately, I want what's best for the coin first, but I like the presentation of an album. Can I get the best of both worlds?

My main Lincoln collections are stored in Airtites. I then put the those into quarter size 2x2's, then those go into plastic binder pages. Then I put those into 3-ring binders and the whole thing goes into a giant ziplock back with a desiccant pack.

This is great for presentation, I just pull the whole binder out and flip through the pages. The only downfall for me, I have to take the pages out of the binder to fit in my deposit box. The binder just takes up too much room.

There is no PVC in Airtite brand holders. IMO they are the best thing going to coin storage and fairly inexpensive when you buy them in bulk, i.e. 100 count boxes.
