After reading a few threads on the net on this, I decided to order a box of halves. The bank didnt give me a problem, did it over the phone and the box would be ready to be picked up Thursday. Now, when a bank has a box of coins shipped to themselves, are they getting circulated coins, or brand new coins?

Should be circulated coins.

thanks,
I use to go through penny rolls my mom would get me, but I hated having to reroll them. I will just take these to bank atlantic to get cashed. I considered getting a box of dimes too, only because silver dimes would be the hardest to spot to an untrained eye, but figured I could order some next time.

The halves will be circulated.
At varouis times of the years, banks will get new uncirculated coins like the new penny but will often limit them to a roll per customer depending on demand.

I just went through 510.00 worth of half dollars and found 1 90% and 3 40%'s. I could have taken some of the others that are worth 1.50 - 5.50 based on mint marks and all, but $500 of half dollars seems a bit much to go through for smaller profit like that.. if I didn't need the money so bad I would have auctioned them off on ebay at $1.25 each or something but I did find some silver! lol

I don't know if the Fed works the same way as banks do, but when the good coins come us employees suck them up

one last question, I ordered a box, which I assumed they understood to be $500. Could it be possibel I jsut ordered 1k in coins? I didnt specify the $ ammount becuase I assumed all box orders were for $500, but now I have been reading that some bank of americas only order 1k in halves.

A box is 500 dollars
It's entirly possible BOA has to order 1000 halves at a time. That's our requirement at work as well.
But you'll get your 500 if you asked for a box

that's a relief, I didn't want to roll out 1k for some coins, although $500 isn't chump change either. I may have to get a police escort or something. Or walk in with a suitcase attached to my wrist with a handcuff.

Try walking out of the bank with 24 boxes...12k. I know of people that do that in a week. While I dont do that amount its nothing to do 2-3k a week for me. Now getting rid of them is a different matter...

I would have to say that walking out the door of a bank with a suitcase handcuffed to your wrist is one step worse then walking out the bank while carrying a huge sign saying "Please rob me."

I quit going through fed and brinks rolls myself. Found it not worth the trouble. I have had great success with customer rolled halves on the other hand. but getting them can be sporadic at best.

At a busy branch, it's nothing for a dozen customers to get $5000 cash out each day. No one is going to knock you over the head for a box of coins. They'll attack granny instead

If anybody tried snatching the box out of your hands, they'd be pretty easy to catch. Ever tried running with a box of halves? It's quite the workout!
