I was wondering if the uncirculated, proof, or burnished silver eagles have the "W" mintmark. I am aware only the bullions were made in 2009 and this year. I am trying to figure out which ones to get from 2008 and previous years and want the "W" mintmarked coins. I've been collecting for awhile and just had a question about this particular issue. Thanks!!

I think The BU silver Eagles that are met to be sold for bullion have no mint marks. The first silver Eagle with a W mint mark is the 1995 W proof, it came it a special 10th anniversary set and list for over $2000. Other than that one, the silver proofs started out as S mint marks, switched to P mint marks in 1993. in 2001 the annual silver proof Eagles switched to the W mint mark. BU burnish silver eagles started in 2006. Burnish Eagles have W mint marks, are sold through U.S. mint sales. So I guess your answer would be, silver eagles with a W mint mark 1995 W proof 2001 W thru 2008 W PROOF 2006 W, 2007 W, 2008 W and the 2008 W (with rev 2007) burnish

Proofs and burnished ASE's have the West Point mm. After 2006, uncirculated ASE's don't carry the "W", only the proofs and burnished. The 2009 ASE I picked up yesterday does not. It's uncirculated.

The Bullion Eagles are still minted at West Point alongside all the other Eagles, just sans mint mark.

Thanks everyone for your help on this issue. I think the 2008 one's are now considered a harder one to get are they not? I've seen some of them selling for very high marks on secondary markets. I know some dealers have them but also charge some pretty high prices as well. All a matter of supply and demand.
I do wish the mint would start back up with making the proofs considering they seem to have enough silver on hand to make other commemorative proofs.

But hard to tell if they've acquired enough silver to do both. They may wind up doing what they did with the 2009 ASE's.

What rules am I breaking? I'm not selling anything, I only offered to obtain a 2008 ASE for another member. Nothing more.
