PMD is my guess on the 44. I would have to lean toward PMD on the 37D, but could be some kind of lamination I've never seen. But, I don't think so.

Just circulation damage. Things like this turn a valuable coin into a cull with just a single blow. So be glad it is just a normal coin, you loose less that way.
