Here you are, The only reason I picked it up was the toned spots... I am a sucker for toning.

Spinning the coin as LVA showed me the reed count is not matching up!

How big is the difference? There were, if I remember, 4 different reeding counts for 1878-P.

Check VAM 224 (168 reed count). That appears to be the 3C3 reverse. The PUPs are a couple of die scratches at the points indicated below.

Nope no scraches as far as the reeding it I take a 1921 and set the 1's together the (1) on the 1921 comes back into the center of the second star (veiwer left)

twohawks,

The 224 is the only one I know with a non-standard reed count on the 78 Rev79. Look at C3C reverses "with cut-down A in AMERICA".

If the die scratches are missing, then it's not a 224.

Check the 221-A for a match.

if you have the time you can always roll the coin over an invoice, it has the second page that is copied when written on, so mark the coin and then roll, then count for the number of reeding, that may help to isolate it......

I come up with 193/194 I tolk a 78 s Vam-6 known with 184 rotated it around and came up 10 or 11 short of compleating the 78P making the 78 have more than the 78S vam-6. the VAM 221 an 222 are not a match and I also checked the 230's
