Well my friends , I was doing some yard work and digging fence holes and found a box with around 175 world coins..

I could really use your help in ID'ing this coin...Looks like it might be quite rare..I have never seen a Papal coin like this .. Maybe Mexican, or Spanish? HELP....

Is it Rare ?, is it worth selling ? whats the value ? All in all the coin is in superb shape... On the side that says 5 cent The lettering says... STATO PONTI FICIO
and the other side says......PVIS IX PONT . MAX . ANN . XX1

This is a soldo (= 5 centesimi) of the Papal States, issued not long before the Papal States (or what was left of it) were incorporated in the new state of Italy.
In 1861 most of the territory was acquired by Italy. In 1866 the pope changed the monetary system to the decimal systen in use in the rest of Italy. In 1870 he had to cede what was left of the Papal States: Rome and a small territory around Rome, to the new state. The state of Italy made Rome immediately to its capital.
The effigy is of pope Pius IX. The "R" is the mintletter of the Rome Mint. It was struck in copper during the years 1866 and 1867.
Mintage for 1867 is 6,500,000 and catalog value in Krause is F:3.50, VF:10.00 $

Papal States Pope Pius IX 21st year, 1 Soldo (5 Centesimi) Rome mint, KM#1372.2 looks like the small date. I would garde this coin VG-Fine value about $2.50.
