Often when I've made a trade or even made a purchase for the sake of filling a hole I've thought... nahhhhh I'm not going to like this.

To give you an example, I bought a collection/lot off a guy for a considerable sum because I wanted the bank notes. His coins were the dead opposite of mine, Royal Canadian Mint and US Mint collection type proof stuff in boxes and cases. I sold most of it and it did quite well giving me a heck of a deal on the chartered bank notes.

But there's a couple I didn't sell and they kind of sucked me into the others of their series.

Item One
US Mint boxed sets with the encased in plastic State Quarters... I know I know, but I REALLY liked how the quarters looked so I bought the rest of them. I have no idea what the attraction was but I liked the designs and strike of the specimens. Maybe because I'm not exposed to it all the time.

Item Two
Royal Canadian Mint Dinosaur Fossil four dollar silver pieces. The original lot I purchased had the Parasaurolophus fossil and I was just going to sell it since it was going for a fair bit over purchase (though not as much as now). I mean it's just a mint issued AT coin right? Nope. The darn thing grew on me and I bought two more just like it to compare them. Every one of them is unique in appearance and I have four sets of four now but I had to lay off when the prices skyrocketed.

so many coins so little money....

Please chime in with coins that "grew on you"

Well I'm attracted to coins like a fly to waste so never had the problem of any of them having to "grow on me". I love every one of them in my collection, even the ones that may seem ugly (pardon the pun) to someone else.

I'm a hard money constitutionalist, so I don't tend to pay attention to base metal coins, but there are exceptions. I like Canadian nickels (especially George V), Dutch diamond-shaped 5c pieces, 1800s Argentine 2 centavos and Victoria veiled head copper.

I've also taken a liking to some of the Lasqueti Mint showings at http://www.lqmint.com/catalogue.php and then I had an old friend give me a "dragongly dime" from the Texas Mint. The latter is OK but I'm loving some of the artwork on the LQ mint series.

When I first saw the RCM $1 silver "the sun" I thought is was odd looking, maybe not ugly, but odd. I got a couple and they are beautiful in hand! I wish I had bought more. I'm beginning to appreciate the more adventurous coins designs of Australia, Canada and others.
