I was following a link the other day and it seems that all upper MS canadian pennies are EXTREMELY high in values.......Is there some reason for that?

Depends what you mean by "upper MS", and "value". Most modern stuff has a top grade of 66 or 67. Most Elizabeth II coins are significantlyless than $1000 in top grades, with exceptions of the 1955 NSF and 1953 SF, etc. The ultra-modern stuff can be had for less than $100 quite often.

George V and George VI coins can run into the thousands in MS-66 or MS-65 for the more key dates.
Canadian cents are still a far cry from the Lincoln series though, where quite a few coins will run into the tens of thousands in 66 and 67 grades, and into six figures for a top grade '09 S-VDB.

I read an article a while back (can't remember where) that noted up to 20 different dies were used to stamp the Victoria coinage cause they would wear out. Now-a-days, the technology improvements in the dies are so great that you can get a MS-67 coin at times in regular circulation. With multi-ply steel and physical vapour deposition (PVD) technology to coat its dies, MS-66 may be the new minimum collectors want for current pennies.

I was referring to the older canadian pennies, from say the 40's into the 60's at MS 65......seems even the later 50's and 60's all go into BIG dollars....just wondering why they newer ones were so expensive.....50's 60's

I don't know what you mean aladin. With the exception of a few varieties, the 50's and 60's coins are only around $30-40 each in MS-65. The war time coins (particularly 1941-1945) all demand a strong premium due to the small amount that have survived in high grades. Again, other than the war time coins, and the "A" points to 1949, and the somewhat scarce 1948's, most of the 40's coins can be bought for between $50 and $100.
