I am hoping someone will be able to identify this token, it's nation of origin, the date of minting, a reference, etc. The ebay seller has no information at all on the token. I am providing the link to the listing. Thanks in advance.

I found this if it helps:

Apparently made by the U.S. Mint in gold, silver, and bronze for all members of the expedition.

If they were only minted for the members of the expedition I would amagine that not many were stamped.

Thank you for providing that link. It had much interesting information contained in the piece. It did not, however, identify what year it was minted at the US mint, and I am equally unable to find further information from the US mint site. Any additional direction or clues would be most appreciated.

Don't count on that. usually medals made by the mint were also added to the list of items that could be purchased from the Mint. The Mint has a list of "national historic medals" that can be ordered. This medal has not been on the list since 1984, but could very easily have been offered back in the 30's or 40's. You would have to locate the Annual Mint Reports from back then to find out for sure.
