edgman,

Obviously you are following your guidelines for buying on ebay and I assume the two dealers referred to above meet that criterion and were trust worthy. The fact that they both shipped you incorrect coins to me shows intent. There are enough noobs out there buying that they can send the incorrect coin and a percentage of the time they never have to replace it. Once in a while they have to correct the "mistake" and go on down the road. I suppose that a dealer could have sold a load of BU 1959 LMC for a $1 a piece and while sorting them out make a mistake and send the wrong coin. But, when someone is buying an expensive coin, it is valuable to them, they probably only have one like it and subsequently would have good control of the coin which makes it very hard for me to understand how "they made a mistake". I would not buy from them, either. No, even guys who meet the toughest evaluation seem shady at times. Unless I know the seller personally, I am buy no coin of valuable on ebay.

What a scary looking coin! Second I saw that date it screamed "FAKE"! It is such a shame that the hobby has come down to this; being afraid of every unslabbed key and semi-key coin that you come across. And even slabs are fake, too!

The two coins I returned where from two of the biggest sellers on ebay. But even though they are different sellers and in different parts of the country the product is shipped from the same company for both. I was and still am apprehensive about the dealers and have made them aware of the consequences of shipping the wrong coins. They have more to lose than I do, that's probably why I got a better coin than posted. I too was a seller on ebay, you can check my seller feedback under "edgman", but quit when they made PayPal only accepted. (Brewery memorabilia only). When I bid or buy a coin the first thing I do is save a picture of the coin if I can. If not ebay saves them for 60 days. When I receive my coin I check it against the picture to make sure I got the right one. All coins have some exquisite identifying marks. As for "no returns accepted" I still wont bid on anything that carries that. Its just me, but I buy a lot of "flash memory, memory cards, camera batteries, etc" which are easily counterfeited. Of course, I also had dealers from " Coin World" try to slip me a lower graded dollar than I paid for.

Sorry for rambling again

The coin shouted fake to me also but when I posted the photos I never in my wildest dreams thought it would stir the on-going debate about good vs bad Ebayers. In any case, the coin has been returned although the seller won't refund my money till he has the coin in his hands. He didn't quibble once I told him it was fake, kind of makes me wonder if he new or not. I believe he did.
