Are you referring to the slightly curved line at 3 oclock, from the last "8"?. If so, that is a "hit".. it is too far away to be a part of the 'date", when it was punched.
While looking at it under high magnification, I also checked the "america", to see if it was doubled. It is not. I have one that IS doubled, but I can't be sure if it is an 1888/1887.
DVCollector, that is an impressive RPD on the image you posted.

(but I can't be sure if it is an 1888/1887). Mine is 1887, and america is doubled from K-9 pivot.
