It's obviously a trading token that provided a discount of $5 on a purchase of $25 at Frank Low's clothing store in Portland, Maine. There's an ad for his store on http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...w%22&f=false There's an illustration of a brass version on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...m=8417564456 price $60 - which seems way too much to me.
