I have an opportunity to buy a gold coin from Austria, about the size of a US silver dollar, but very thin. I think it weighs 17 grams. It has FRAN IOS IDG AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR on one side and I didn't get a pix of the obv (dumb me). Does this ring a bell with somebody?

It can't be a 1 ducat, it would have to be something like 5 ducat with that weight. Which year is given on the coin?

A picture would be helpful.
It sounds like a 4 ducat.
If year is 1915, it is a restrike.
Worth a little more than melt.

wwhitman is right, this must be a 4 ducat. It only weighs 14 grams, but no other Austrian gold coin minted with Franz Josephs name on it (Fran Ios) is heavier. It is most probably from 1915, almost all of them are. Any other year would be quite valuable.
