well folks, heres the last 2 for the night.... The Vampire coin speaks for itself, but I figured you would all enjoy this large cent with a very interesting Planchet split

The "Vampire Francais" medal is a satirical piece, issued to denigrate the former French emperor, Napoleon III. The Imperial Eagle found on French Empire (Empire Francais) coinage has been replaced with an owl, symbol of bad luck and death. In France, Napoleon III was blamed for losing the Franco-Prussian War, with the emperor himself and almost the entire French army surrendering to the Prussians after the Battle of Sedan.

Art - do a search for Sheldon large cent and start researching. Large cents have been categorized down to the every die pair. With some research, you might be able to tell the date of any that you found.

I did this a couple weeks ago with a dateless large cent I was given about 30 years ago. It is stemless (it's missing the stems that point to the "U" in United and the second "A" in America). Using this and other die markers, I was able to determine that it's an 1802, Sheldon 231.

hey Matt, thanks much, the only thing I was told is that it was a Sheldon, and could be quite rare, but they would not elaborate on why...I was offered a few bucks by one of those guys as long as I did not mention the amount or his name...

Think I will check this out further...

Adding tokencatalog link to the two known versions of the vampire token here. Interestingly, both of these show that owl resting on a nest of bones, so neither one is an exact match:

Spence, I just added mine to tokencatalog: https://tokencatalog.com/token_reco...d_id=682884. Note that the other two listings there incorrectly state 30,000 prisoners, while it should be 80,000.
There are nine of these tokens on the Numista exonumia site - search for France 1870 Sedan.
