Does this guy even qualify as a G-4? I think I'll post him as an OBO.

Detail wise I think it would make G-4, the date is clear and there is still some detail on the eagle. However due to the scratches on both sides it will hurt the grade.

LOL - told you he was rough! Maybe a G-2.36785? I'm not complaining for a roll find!

Because of all the damage it would be hard to grade this coin.

I think it would have the details of a G-4 ... as far as value it would most likely fall into the fair FR-2 or poor P-1 grades. But still a G-4 with damage.

Probably not much at all, that is the kind of coin frequently found in junk bins and bargain boxes.

This coin if submitted to any TPG would be returned 'Not Gradable'.

It has some G-4 details I suppose .... but the damage has ruined it from the perspective of an actual grade.

BTW .... nice photos indeed!

Guess that's why I found it in a roll. I guess I'll put it back!
Rest in Peace

My son has an 1858 from a junk box that's not nearly as nice as that one. Do you think you might be willing to send him this 1857, as long as you're not planning to keep it? He'd really get excited.

Absolutely! You got it AndrewC! PM me your address, and your son's name (I want to address it to him as a surprise). How old is he?

I was trying to think of a contest idea, but this solves my problem. Especially if I know it will go to someone who appreciates it! Thanks for responding!
