Holed, not sure if it is real but the price was right. Die crack makes me think it is real but either way just finding it on a sidewalk is cool. Actually my 8 yr. old daughter found it, I gave her $10 for it, didn't really have to give her anything for it but maybe she will find more knowing stuff there is a reward!

Cool.

Why is there a hole drilled through the obverse that I don't see on the reverse?

The hole is on the reverse at 7:00. Nice way to start a child out in the hobby.

Nice story and I would have done exactly the same.
You're probably going to get a whole lot of junk passed to you on street finds from now on but I agree with pls that this will probably stick your daughter's mind for life and, hopefully, produce a future numismatist.

I am hoping she gets into coin collecting, she is a pretty bright girl. As I have said in previous posts, I am collecting for them, something to pass on after I am gone, something that has value. Hopefully my son and daughter will continue it on. I have given some coins to them all ready. She wanted a proof 2001 SAE (her birth year) so I gave her one. I just gave one of the Boy Scout proofs to my 11 yr. old son. He has shown some interest and I do what I can to encourage him. He has a few nice coins, I am divorced, a few weeks ago he called all excited that he found a new $1 star note. It was neat to hear the excitement in his voice. His real passion right now is electronics, last year he built a home server from scratch and now he wants to build a custom desktop computer. What ever happened to boys wanting a toy fire truck? He is just too smart for his age!

As for the hole, yes it is at 7:00, I have never seen one of these before so it may have a slight rotation to it, I really don't know anything about these.

I got the birth years Australian lunar calendar series coins for each of my kids - I'm into British monarchs myself. One of the years was 2001, by the way. They are very excited too.
